Health Services

Welcome to the OUHSD School Health Services Department.

A registered credentialed School Nurse is available full time at each school site in the OUHSD.  Our health offices stay open throughout the entire school day and are staffed by a School Nurse and health technician who work together as a team.

A School Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who has a Baccalaureate Degree or above, additional post graduate education related to school health, and a School Health Services Credential through California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

School nurses are the primary health care providers within the educational environment.  They promote optimum health status by providing support for physical, mental and emotional health concerns thereby enabling students to achieve their fullest potential as learners and as people.

Health Techs are unlicensed personnel with training in first aid, CPR, medication administration, and specialized procedures as needed under the direct supervision of the credentialed school nurse.  They assist students with minor health concerns, first aid needs, phone calls to parents, and daily medications.  Health clerks are also responsible for data entry of immunizations and can answer questions about immunization requirements.

If you have concerns about your child’s health care during school hours, please reach out to the nurse at your child’s school. Contact Us.
