WHEREAS, during Native American Heritage Month we celebrate the rich history, the generosity, and the extensive contributions, both historical and current, of our Indigenous people and we recognize their stories as inextricably woven into the history of this country, Ventura County, and our local communities; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the sacrifices many tribal citizens have made in defense of our Nation having served and continue to serve with honor and distinction in the Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, Native Americans have made distinct and important contributions to Ventura County, California, the United States, and the rest of the world in many fields, including the fields of agriculture, medicine, music, language, and art; and
WHEREAS, Native Americans maintain vibrant cultures and traditions and hold a deeply rooted sense of community; and
WHEREAS, Native Americans have moving stories of tragedy, triumph, and perseverance that need to be shared with future generations; and
WHEREAS, the Oxnard Union High School District is committed to engaging in dialogues, and striving to create classrooms where these stories are preserved and encouraged; and now
THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the Oxnard Union High School District recognizes November 1-30 as Native American Heritage Month and encourages all local schools to support this occasion by participating in appropriate instructional activities .
