Nutrition Services and Farm to School team visit C.A.K.E -Culinary Arts Kids Eat- program at Santee Education Complex in Los Angeles

Nutrition Services staff were invited to learn more about the outstanding Culinary Arts-Kids Eat program at Santee Education Complex in South Los Angeles this spring. Our staff partnered up with students while they prepared recipes from their cookbook- From Our Hood to Yours”. We enjoyed Strawberry Balsamic Chicken Salad, Roasted Red Pepper Paninis, Lemon Lavender Cookies and a Chia Melon Mint Smoothie. The CAKE program is an afterschool farm-to-table program where students grow items in their school garden and use healthy foods in recipes developed by the students.
