WHEREAS, that from April 3, 2017 to April 7, 2017, the State of California will observe Adult Education
Week, the District’s Governing Board and Superintendent, acknowledge that Oxnard Adult School offers quality programs to meet the ever-changing economic and workforce development and lifelong learning needs of our diverse state; and
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School provides instruction to those in our community who need English as a Second Language and Citizenship courses; and plays a key role in immigrant integration and the path to United States citizenship, which is important for our diverse community during this time of immigration reform; and
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School, recognizing that to break the cycle of illiteracy we must focus on educating parents, provides programs to support educational equity for all
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School is a primary community resource for the teaching and instruction of adult literacy; and
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School provides a way for adults to secondary-education studies and obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent at their own pace and to prepare for and transition to postsecondary education and career training; and
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School provides programs especially designed to provide critical opportunities to bring recent dropouts back to school; and
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School provides short-term career, job training and technical training for adults seeking changes or enhancements in their career pathways; and
WHEREAS, Oxnard Adult School provides for the unique needs of individuals in a diverse population; Now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Governing Board of the Oxnard Union High School District joins the California State Consortium for Adult Education and the education community in proclaiming April 3, 2017 to April 7, 2017 as Adult Education Week, commends and salutes the administration, teachers, and students of the Oxnard Adult School.
