On Thursday, November 3rd, students at Hueneme had a new lunchtime experience: they made smoothies using a bicycle. The SNAC club sponsored an event in conjunction with The Berry Man, our district’s produce distributor. The Berry Man brought a “Blender Bike”, a bicycle that powers a blender when someone pedals it. SNAC members took over the outdoor stage and showed the school how to power through a warm fall day by making a smoothie with a bicycle. SNAC members made the smoothies and invited other students to join in on the fun. They made a berry spinach smoothie, and it was delicious!
After school that day over 150 students attended a Fall Food Festival in the cafeteria. This event was organized by SNAC and Nutrition Services. Five vendors plus The Berry Man attended, bringing a host of samples of food items for students to try. SNAC members used tablets and a google survey to collect feedback about the items that students liked, didn’t like, and most importantly- why. Delia, our cafeteria manager, also provided samples of the new Harvest of the Month dish- Persimmon Salad, and Chicken Fettucine Alfredo made from scratch. Overall the students gave extremely positive feedback about all of the items they tried, with a few exceptions. The event was a huge success!
