On April 28, 2015, students from the culinary academies at Pacifica and Rio Mesa High will face off in a Top Chef-like dessert competition at the Embassy Suites in Oxnard. Starting at 5:30, the event, titled “Sweets at the Beach,” will see the winning student teams competing for a perpetual trophy and a night’s stay at the Embassy Suites for them and their family. General Manager, Colleen Huther and her team, including Embassy Chef Nikki, are showing their support for Culinary careers by opening their kitchen and facility to host the competition.
Culinary instructors Matt Rockwell and Cynthia Allen have prepped their teams by conducting elimination trials at their home schools before sending their best team into competition. The students do not know the exact ingredients they will be using for their creations that night, but they know strawberries will be a key component. The public is invited to attend the evening event. The hotel will offer a special menu of drinks and snacks for attendees.
