Mr. Cabral has been recently appointed to be a member of the Development Committee responsible for creating the AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Culture Exams for the nation.

Mr. Cabral came to the USA from San Luis, Zonora Mexico.  He was only 14 years old; in fact, he turned 14 on the way to the USA and this was the first day he met his dad.   Year 14 was an exciting year for Mr. Cabral.    He completed his high school education at Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles.  Julio was a hard-working and dedicated student, and when a Cal State LA recruiter came to Roosevelt High, she assured Julio that he would be able to attend Cal State LA.  With the help of this recruiter, Julio was able to attend Cal State LA and graduate with a degree in Spanish.  Julio does not recall the name of the recruiter but refers to him as his guardian angel.  Julio tells me that he has been very lucky to have guardian angels along the way that have helped him accomplish his goals.  While attending Cal State LA, Julio’s high school principal hired him as a TA and later as a teacher under an emergency credential.  Julio was at Roosevelt High as a student, as a TA and as a Teacher for a total of 15 years.  He left Roosevelt High because he fell in love and moved to Ventura County.  He has been teaching with OUHSD for fifteen years and at HHS respectively.

Julio has an excellent rapport with his students and says that in each student he teaches at HHS, he seems himself and is able to relate to their educational struggles as well as the struggles they face being newcomers to our school and our country.  Julio provides rigor in his classes while supporting his students all the way.  Over 90% of his students pass their AP Exam with a 3 or better each and every year.  In addition to being an exceptional teacher in the classroom, his teaching goes beyond the classroom and beyond teaching his students.   Julio is a consultant for other AP Teachers in our school, in our county and in our state.  He has been an AP College Board Reader for many years and now a member of the AP Language and Literature Test Development Committee.

We are truly honored to have a teacher of such high caliber as Mr. Julio Cabral serving our students in our school and in our district, and we would like for him to be recognized by the board for his service and dedication.
