Channel Islands, Pacifica, Camarillo and Oxnard were among the schools honored at The Ventura County Star’s High School Journalism Awards.
Every year, The Ventura County Star hosts its High School Journalism Awards contest. The newspaper invites student journalists from every secondary school in the region to submit their best work.
The Star lets students compete in long-established categories such as news and features and over the years has added social media, video and website. The newspaper’s reporters, editors, photographers and digital team pore over the entries to pick the top student work.
For 2015, the Star received more than 400 entries from nearly 20 schools. The students wrote about everything from where to eat for lunch to the impact of Ebola. They documented their classmates’ successes on the playing fields and chronicled the thoughts of their friends via social media.
