Channel Islands ties Pacifica after honoring late coach

OXNARD, Calif. – After an emotional ceremony honoring former coach Rogelio Juarez, who died last year after a battle with cancer, the Channel Islands High boys soccer team rallied for a hard-fought 1-1 tie against rival Pacifica in the Pacific View League opener for both teams Thursday night.

Channel Islands (5-4-1, 0-0-1) scored the equalizer late in the second half when junior midfielder Cesar Juarez made a perfect pass to senior defender Todd Fox, who was streaking down the toward the goal on the right side, took the pass and blasted a shot past Pacifica keeper Ivan Lumbrano in one motion.
