VENTURA, Calif. – The line of family and friends snapping team pictures at game’s end grew longer and longer, and the smiles worn by members of the Pacifica High boys soccer team grew brighter and brighter.
And why not? Not every day can the Tritons savor a performance like this.
A dramatic last-minute goal in the semifinal over its staunchest rival followed by a big second half in the final against a regional powerhouse earned Pacifica the championship of the Buena High New Year’s Tournament on Saturday.
The Tritons edged Oxnard, 1-0, on David Garcia’s clutch goal in the final minute to win the matchup of Pacific View League stalwarts in the morning semifinal contest.
