It was a surprise for either team to find itself in the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 semifinals. But when all was said and done, Oxnard High showed it definitely belonged in this weekend’s final.

Sophomore Jannelle Garcia scored twice Tuesday night to lead Oxnard to a 4-0 victory over St. Bonaventure at Ventura College to earn a berth in the divisional championship.

The semifinal was an unlikely gathering place for the two local teams, especially St. Bonaventure. The Seraphs started the season 1-9 before winning the Frontier League and finishing with a 13-10 record after Tuesday’s loss.

Oxnard (17-5-3) will play Citrus Valley, which beat San Dimas 3-2, on Friday or Saturday at a site to be determined. Co-coach Maggie Morrison said the Yellowjackets might have also been surprised to advance all the way to the final.
