50 cadets from Oxnard High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC Program marched proudly in the Oxnard Christmas Parade on December 7, 2013. They were led by their Commander, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Richard Olivares and the Performance Team Commander, Cadet Second Lieutenant Alexa Hernandez. The brains behind the operation was Cadet Captain Joseph Navarro, who planned and organized the march for the OHS AFJROTC cadets.
The cadets created original routines, using both sabers and rifles and “wowed” the judges during the formal portion of the event. The Color Guard was also superb. Oxnard High School narrowly beat out their arch rival, Hueneme High School’s Navy JROTC Program, because of their superior execution of drill moves and better overall performance.
The day started out miserably, with rain pouring down and freezing cold temperatures. Several groups dropped out, but not the Air Force cadets. Nothing will stop the U. S. Air Force. Cadets huddled under blankets, jackets, tarps, umbrellas, and took shelter anywhere they could until the parade started. The sun finally came out and it turned out to be a glorious day.
