Vasquez went 4-1 in the prestigious event at Temecula Valley High, losing only to No. 4 seed Immanuel Barber of Canyon Springs in the division final, 15-4.
In reaching the championship match, Vasquez’s toughest match turned out to be a 5-4 verdict over Royal’s Deric Ginther in a second-round bout Friday.
Amir Hassan of Westlake, who won his first CIF-Southern Section championship last week, settled for fourth place after advancing to the 152-pound semifinals. He lost to top-seeded and eventual champion Luke Wilson of Righetti, 9-6.
