In the days leading up to Wednesday night’s Pacific View League showdown with Rio Mesa High, Channel Islands wrestling coach Richard Sierra gave his team a little history lesson.
Sierra reminded his Raiders that last season they were on track to being undisputed Pacific View League champions before a letdown in a dual match with Pacifica left them having to share the title with the Tritons.
Sierra hoped the history lesson would motivate his team enough to prevent the same thing from happening against the Spartans, who, like Channel Islands, entered the match with a 2-0 league mark.
Judging by the way his wrestlers performed, Sierra’s message got through loud and clear.
