Behind their success, stood an architect named Carl Thompson.

The longtime Camarillo football coach, who had been battling leukemia, died Feb. 17 at age 76 at Pleasant Valley Hospital.

Nicknamed “Coach,” Thompson guided Camarillo to a school-record 106 wins as head football coach from 1983 to 2000.
