Truth be told, at the beginning of the boys soccer season, Camarillo High would’ve probably just been happy to get into the CIF-Southern Section playoffs. But now that they’re alone atop the standings, a Pacific View League championship sounds pretty nice, too.
For the third straight game, the Scorpions overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit and withstood a second-half challenge to defeat visiting Pacifica 3-2 Tuesday and move into a tie for first place in the league and clinch a Division 3 playoff berth.
Camarillo (10-8-1, 6-3-0) is tied with Oxnard, which beat Hueneme 3-2 Tuesday, and can clinch at least a tie for the PVL title with a win at Channel Islands in its regular-season finale at 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Oxnard hosts Pacifica at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The Scorpions again had trouble gaining momentum in the first half and Pacifica took a 1-0 first-half lead when Christian Gonzalez’s high pass into the box went over the outstretched arms of freshman goalie Jordan Andres Duran and into the net.
