Eric Bautista thought that he had seen just about every move that former club teammate Alec Medina had in his arsenal.
So when the Channel Islands High sophomore found himself snugging the mat and trailing by five points to Medina of Camarillo in the 106-pound final of the Pacific View League wrestling individual championships at Oxnard, he knew that a response was needed quickly.
“It should never of happened that he took me down,” said Bautista, who had never lost to the freshman.
Bautista found an escape path midway into the second period, reversed positions on Medina and pinned him with 42 seconds left for the title.
