A decade later, Camarillo primed for second CIF title run

This No. 1 seems so familiar, coach Rob Vandermay can’t help but make comparisons.

“It reminds me of our (CIF-SS) championship team in 2003,” said Camarillo High’s longtime boys volleyball coach. “That team had one superstar talent, and so does this one. That team was athletic and played with a lot of confidence. So does this team.”

There’s deja vu in place at Camarillo, where the top-ranked team in the CIF-SS’s Division 3 plays a lot like its title-winning predecessor from 10 years earlier.

The Scorpions, led by senior outside hitter Owen Yoshimoto, are 18-5-1, including 3-0 in the Pacific View League.
