Robert Ortiz just wanted to be able to go outside and play in the sun.So the 18-year-old senior exchanged the Puget Sound for the Channel Islands, bringing a different type of sunshine with him.

“It’s beautiful outside, so why not take advantage of it?” asked Ortiz. “The kids out here, they don’t understand how lucky they have it.”

Out of the rain and into the heat of the Pacific View League race, Ortiz, who transferred from Lacey, Wash., in the middle of his senior year, has played like he cherishes each day in the Camarillo sun.
