Strong showing for Rio Mesa in Walnut relays

When it comes to short relays, Rio Mesa High moved to the top of two state lists Saturday at the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut.

Rio Mesa posted state-leading performances in the boys invitational 4×200 relay (1:26.34), which is tied for 11th in the nation, and the 4×400 relay in 3:16.42, No. 3 on the all-time county list. The Spartans were second in the invitational 4×100 relay in 41.62. Blake Selig was fourth in the invitational long jump at 23 feet, 2.50 inches. Raegan Nizdil placed second in the girls invitational high jump at 5-6.

In the boys invitational 800, Tommy Lopez of Thousand Oaks posted a county-leading time of 1:54.63 in placing fifth. Agoura’s Doug Wong was ninth in 1:57.92.
