No head coach, no problem for the Camarillo High softball team.

Pitcher Sarah Shadinger helped emphatically ensure that was the case.

The senior threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and only one walk as second-seeded Camarillo opened its CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title defense with an 8-0 first-round victory over Diamond Bar on Thursday afternoon at Camarillo High.

Shadinger struck out seven of the first nine Diamond Bar batters, including six straight. Her only blemish in a bid for a perfect game was walking the third batter in the first inning.
