If Rio Mesa High was looking to build momentum for next Friday’s rivalry matchup against Camarillo, the Spartans got themselves off to a good start Friday night by defeating hos Hueneme 62-6.

“What we get out of this game is some momentum and we got some pride back,” said Rio Mesa head coach Bob Gregorchuk. “We look forward to hosting Camarillo next week.”

There wasn’t much that didn’t go Rio Mesa’s way. Kado Brown rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns and Martel Tyler ran for 87 yards and a touchdown.

After winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, Angel Medina returned a fumble for a touchdown to open up scoring for the Spartans (3-6, 2-2 Pacific View League).
