The saying goes: “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.”

But for the Rio Mesa High girls basketball team on Tuesday night it was definitely how the Spartans started because how they finished wasn’t very pretty.

After building a 24-point third-quarter lead, Rio Mesa suffered through some anxious moments before hanging on to beat Pacifica 47-39 in a Pacific View League game at Rio Mesa High.

“I thought the first three quarters we played as well as we have all year, but in the fourth quarter their pressure was good,” Rio Mesa head coach Tim Murray said. “We made some bad decisions, but they are the ones that caused it and we just didn’t react very well.”
