The Rio Mesa High boys basketball team nearly handed the game to Camarillo High on Friday night.

Martel Tyler made sure Rio Mesa didn’t come away empty-handed.

Tied at 61 with a minute remaining, Tyler pulled the basketball out along the perimeter then sped past his defender and banked in a floater to give the Spartans a 63-61 win in a key Pacific View League contest.

“I had to look to score and get myself involved in the game,” Tyler said. “My team needed it.”
