Not to suggest that Donnie Rea has been around awhile, but his high school football uniform as a senior at Villanova Prep in 1964 featured an interesting adornment.

“We wore leather helmets,” he said. “That’s the truth. I think we were the last team in the county to wear them. That was part of our uniform.”

If the background is far-reaching, Rea has remained very much current as a high school football coach for the past 42 years. What now becomes his final season as the head coach at Pacifica High includes no small measure of success.

By virtue of a 3-2 mark in the Pacific View League (4-6 overall), Pacifica has qualified for postseason for the first time since 2008 and will open the Western Division playoffs with a road game Friday.
