Finishing second or third in league and earning a berth in postseason ranks as solid achievements for most boys basketball programs.

At Oxnard High, it’s motivation.

After monopolizing the Pacific View League championship throughout the past decade, the Yellowjackets placed second two years ago, and third last season. So guess what tops Oxnard’s to-do list for the 2012 league campaign?

“Winning league is our motivation,” says Oxnard coach Jeff Staniland. “We’ve talked about that starting with our first team meeting. We had a young team last year, and we certainly had our ups and down through the whole league season.
