
He’s not like the high achievers who regularly scoop up top academic awards.In fact, Javier Licea almost failed fifth grade. He did so poorly in eighth grade, he didn’t find out until a week before graduation that he would be allowed to move on to high school.
While he was in junior high school, Licea’s mother was told her son would “never amount to anything.”
Licea said he entered Pacifica High School in Oxnard a disgruntled adolescent who often got into trouble for talking back to teachers and being the class clown.
