In recent meetings between Oxnard and Rio Mesa, the Yellowjackets fullbacks have had plenty of success running the ball.

All week, Oxnard head coach Mark Beckham kept telling fullback Andrew Valenzuela that his team was expecting big things out of him Friday night.

The 5-foot-10 junior didn’t disappoint, rushing for 146 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown run that helped Oxnard post a 28-14 victory over Rio Mesa on homecoming night.

“Coach reminded me about that a lot,” Valenzuela said of the past fullback successes. “I was due for a big game and I’m glad it came tonight.
