The third quarter was Oxnard’s time on Friday night, as it erased a 7-0 halftime deficit with two unanswered trips to the end zone and the Yellowjackets opened the 2012 season with a big win, defeating Quartz Hill 12-10 on Friday night at home.
“For and opening game, we did a lot fo good things, but we missed some opportunities early,” Oxnard head coach Mark Beckham said. “I’ll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day.”
Running back Adam Espinoza was the catalyst for Oxnard, carrying the ball 32 times for 174 yards and the go-ahead touchdown for Oxnard. His effort along and hard-nosed defense enabled Oxnard to score an upset win over a Rebels squad that finished second in the Golden League last season.
