Under the direction of OHS Band Director Fundi Legohn, the Oxnard High School Jazz Band and Choir were invited to perform at the historic Bard Mansion for the “Friends of Bard Mansion’s” Holiday Dinner on Saturday, December 8th. Both groups performed holiday classics for the guests. This was the jazz band and choir’s first performance of the season.

It was an honor to perform for such a special group of people which included three generations of Bard family members: Thomas Bard’s granddaughter, 95-year-old Joanna Bard, her son, Travers Newton, and Georgia Newton Pulos (great-granddaughter of Thomas Bard). Joanna Bard Newton’s father was Richard Bard, who is remembered as the father of Port Hueneme.

Parents and students who were in attendance were also fortunate enough to take a tour of the beautiful mansion which displays photographs and other memorabilia that reflect the life and era of Thomas R. Bard and his family dating back to the Revolutionary War.

It was an honor for Fundi and the students to perform at such a historic Ventura County landmark.

Special thanks to OHS Music Director Fundi Legohn for creating such a special musical and educational environment at Oxnard High School where students can discover talents that they will carry with them throughout their entire lives.
