Tuck Engelmann knows how to buck a trend.

While it’s been a tough stretch for sports teams at Hueneme High, Engelmann coaches the notable exception.

The boys soccer team was the lone Vikings program to win a league championship during the 2010-2011 school year. This season, Hueneme again figures to be in the thick of the Pacific View League chase.

Stability counts for a lot in high school athletics, with Engelmann now in his eighth season in charge of the Vikings. Contrast that to, say, the football program, which will work on its fifth coach in seven seasons.
