Camarillo High senior pitcher Hunter Virant dropped lower than he anticipated when the Houston Astros selected the left-hander in the 11th round with the 339th pick overall.
Virant was 8-3 with 0.94 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched this season for the Scorpions. He was a member of the USA Baseball Under-18 national team that competed internationally last year.
“It was a little disappointing because I thought I would go a lot sooner, but there is nothing I can do about it. I just have to keep my head high,” Virant said. “It is truly an honor just to be drafted. Not very many people can say that. I am excited I was able to be one of the very few.”
