Alfredo “Freddy” Echeverria has an unusual career goal in mind after he graduates from Frontier High School on July 7.

“I want to be a mortician or a medical examiner,” said the 18-year-old teenager from Oxnard.

Alfredo said he watches detective and homicide programs on television and thinks the profession is interesting.

“People think I’m weird because I’ve gone to a couple of funerals and touched the body,” he said.

Alfredo, son of Maria and Alfredo Echeverria, transferred to Frontier High School from Channel Islands High School when he was a sophomore. He said the teachers supported him and motivated him to do better in school.

“The teachers said I was a great kid and a bright student. They said I couldn’t give up.”

Alfredo said his school performance improved tremendously. He was awarded student of the month, had perfect attendance and was treasurer of the associated student body on campus.

He joined mock trial and won for his character portrayal of a medical examiner, where he learned about the importance of science in an investigation.

Alfredo said he will enroll in classes at Ventura College and will seek the firsthand experience of an internship at a mortician’s office.
