Joel Gonzalez knew where the main competition was coming from Thursday afternoon.

“My opponent, my teammate,” said the Camarillo High senior.

In the Pacific View League Cross Country Finals, it was Gonzalez’s turn to shine in this friendly but spirited rivalry.

Gonzalez, running steady and consistent, turned in a solid time of 15 minutes, 18.14 seconds to hold off top rival and teammate Esteban Vega and win the boys individual championship at the PVL finals at Oxnard College.
