Hunter Virant, senior, traveled all over the nation this summer to play baseball for team USA.
“It was a dream come true to be able to represent our country by playing the sport I love,” said Virant.
Virant traveled from Florida to North Carolina, and finally to San Diego. He went to Florida to play for a USA show case, where he pitched well. He was then asked to go to North Carolina and try out for team USA.
“I was already excited to have pitched in front of all the coaches of team USA, but to be asked to be a part of the team and represent my own country was just unreal,” said Virant.
When Virant got to North Carolina, he made the team. He practiced for a week with the team to get ready for their first game together at Petco Park in San Diego.
Virant said, “I played the hardest I have ever played in my whole life, it was like my whole life was leading up to this point. I had made team USA and we were on our way to our first game.”
Virant came back to California and went to San Diego where the team won the game. Virant pitched two innings, had five strike outs, and got a pop up. He also had a hit.
“This was the most amazing experience I have ever had in my whole life, and I am looking forward to my next games and practices with all my friends on team USA,” said Virant.
