Vikings win at county science fair
Congratulations to the 2011 Ventura County Science Fair winners from Hueneme High School! Thirty-five students from Hueneme High School participated at the Ventura County Science Fair. About 400 high school students competed at the fair and our students did an excellent job. The first and second place winners will go on to the California State Competition in May. A special thanks to teachers, Kevin Callaway, Jay Robnett, Shelley Zadik and Tuck Engelmann for all of their help with the science fair.

Below are the HHS prize winners, although all of the students did a great job:

1st place Physics:
Gerardo Landeros (9th grade) – "The Sweet Spot on Baseball Bats"
1st Place Animal Behavior:
Leslie Magana (9th grade),   " A Cup of Joe: Caffeine Effects on Fish and Crickets."
2nd Place Mathematics:
Alex Cruz (9th grade), "The Maze:  Man vs. Machine".
3rd Place Biochemistry:
Jaymee Jenkins (9th grade), "Antioxidants"
4th  Place Earth Science:
Junnichi Mijares (9th grade),   "A Sticky Mess:  Oil Spill Clean-Ups"
4th Place Physics:
Elena Padilla, (9th grade),  "Height and Stride"
Air and Waste Management $100 Prize:
Leslie Gonzalez and Yaneth Renteria,  "Greenhouse Effect:  Atmospheric Gases and Heat Retention"
