The Rio Mesas girls’ varsity water polo team has had a seven year winning streak. This means they have gone without losing any league games for seven years straight! Part of this is due to their coach.

Mr. McKnett is currently Rio Mesa High School’s girls’ varsity water polo coach. Mr. McKnett has been coaching for fourteen years. He started off playing water polo in high school at Buena High. He was then asked to help out at Ventura High School. He continued to do so for fouryears. He then proceded on coaching our girls’ varsity here for the past ten years.

When I asked him who he thought the best player on the team was he replied with, “I’m going to have to go with Courtney Walters, but the team as a whole is strong.” Courtney is a junior. This means we’ll have her back next year. She can play pretty much any position and is amazing at it! Also at the top of varsity we have Abby McCardell, Ashley White, Aubrey Larson, Victoria Carson, Kathryn Arbon, Gretchen Plander, and Madison Wolfe.

I then asked Mr. McKnett how he thought our season was going. He replied with, “Well, as expected, good :] ”Both our varsity and junior varsity won league this year. Junior varsity being coached by Mrs. Harris. Good job girls! Good luck with CIF!
