The Soroptimist International Club of Camarillo presented two female high school seniors with the Amy Durst McAvoy Memorial Scholarship during a ceremony in Camarillo on May 24. The award, named for a former member of the Camarillo club and noted philanthropist, was given to Adolfo Camarillo High School senior Corene Hutchison, second from left, and Yuritzi Gonzales, a senior from Fillmore High School, second from right. The two young women, both of whom will attend California State University Channel Islands in the fall, are joined by the club’s president, Barbara Hatch, at left, and the awards chairperson Carol Lopez. The club advocates for the rights and education of women and girls and has been providing service to the local community for over 30 years.
