Tanner Wrout

By game’s end Friday night, Tanner Wrout was running on fumes.

Let’s just say he was happy that the contest between the Rio Mesa and Pacifica highs football teams didn’t head into overtime.

“I’m pretty tired,” the Rio Mesa senior running back/linebacker said after the Spartans’ 51-42 victory in the Pacific View League opener. “But it’s a good feeling. That team (Pacifica) is quite a challenge. They do a good job with their offense, and they are capable of scoring a lot of points.”

Wrout starred on both sides of the football in the victory. He rushed for 124 yards and touchdowns of 41, 30 and 1 yard, and came up with the big stop of the night in tackling Pacifica running back Dennis Taylor for a loss that prevented the Tritons from posting the tying, 2-point conversion late in the final quarter
