Rio Mesa High School’s WorldQuest team is headed to the national competition in Washington, D.C.

The team won the regional competition in Irvine last weekend, beating the second-place team by just one point, according to teacher Christopher Moody.

On April 30, Rio Mesa students will face 75 teams from throughout the country at nationals. The Rio team includes students Chris Russell, Daniel Corbett, Mauricio Mendez and Jordan Strang.

Academic WorldQuest, founded by the World Affairs Council, tests students’ knowledge of international affairs, geography, history and culture.

This year’s topics include world religions, global health, press freedoms, and Ireland.
