The newly acquired API score was celebrated on Friday, September 30th, by the entire school in Cam High’s very own James Ackerman Stadium. The API this year was 848; the highest it has ever been and one more point than last year. Students from all the classes screamed and cheered to show their excitement for this record breaking feat.

With the new API score being the highest it has been in Cam High’s entire history, Cam High has been named one of the top five hundred schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine. It has also been named as one of the top fifty schools in California. There were multiple performances from students in band, cheerleading, flag girls, color guard, dance team, and even some of our teachers performing a special dance in celebration for this event. Senior Cassy Solomon said “It was really entertaining and a bit of a surprise to see some of the teachers actually take the time to learn a dance for this event.” The audience was divided into four sections with very much enthusiasm and school spirit coming off the crowd. The sections went by class with freshman on the left, sophomores on the right, juniors in the middle and top, and finally the seniors were front and center.

Thanks to the new API, the seniors are given the privilege to leave off campus during lunch. This arrangement was suggested by Mr. Glen Lipman last year. If this year had a higher API score than its predecessors, then all seniors are eligible to obtain a senior lunch pass.

The rest of the event was lively and loud with students screaming for their school in appreciation of this recognition from the school and country. “The API rally was really phenominal!” says senior Monique Carpio, “It was amazing seeing all of ACHS out on the stadium. It really brings the school together.” When being asked who could be the loudest and show the most school spirit, the stadium became louder with each grade that had cheered. Seniors ultimately won and shouted the loudest. This event was a historical time for Cam High’s legacy. Students and teachers hope to see the API improve even more with future classes. Until then, the school will be enjoying this new record.
