When Gary Porter took over as Channel Islands High’s head football coach in 2009, he quickly realized he needed to revamp more than the playbook.

“I pretty much identified the attitude and atmosphere that prevailed on campus,” he said. “It was a defeatist attitude. I knew that would have to change.”

Three seasons later, the Raiders appear to be forging a milestone campaign. They already own a streak-busting victory.

With its 42-35 victory in overtime against host Pacifica on Friday night, Channel Islands snapped its 11-game losing streak in the Paciic View League.
