Halfway through the fall high school sports season, and already there are enough interesting storylines to flood Facebook.
No matter what else transpires this school year, nothing can surpass the sight of Adrian Padilla joining his Oxnard High football teammates on the field at Larrabee Stadium before Friday night’s game against host Ventura High.
The Oxnard senior, wearing a special protective helmet, was at the front of the line as the Yellowjackets strolled into the stadium. He then served as an honorary team captain for the coin toss at midfield.
“I’m glad to be here,” he said, flashing a big smile as he watched his teammates in their pregame warm-ups. “I just wish I could be on the field with them.”
Padilla underwent emergency surgery in San Luis Obispo on Sept. 16 after suffering a severe concussion in a game against the host Tigers.
