Alysha Rivera was completely befuddled. She hardly recognized the team on the court. After coming out strong to win the first game against Valley Christian-Cerritos, the Oxnard High girls volleyball team fell into a second-game funk.
“I was in shock because I didn’t understand how we were playing so horrible, including myself,” Rivera said. “I just wanted it to be over and get onto the third game and come out and on top again and play amazing. I had complete faith in my team.”
Rivera’s confidence was rewarded as Oxnard rebounded from its momentary malaise to beat Valley Christian 25-18, 16-25, 26-24, 25-19 in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2-A playoffs on Tuesday night at Oxnard High.
