Alysha Rivera may have been playing with a strained abdomen, but she sure didn’t show it Thursday night.
The senior outside hitter guided a determined Oxnard High girls volleyball team to a three-game sweep, 25-11, 25-16, 25-20, of host Rio Mesa in the Pacific View League opener for both teams.
Rivera strained her abdomen in a recent practice and Oxnard head coach Pat Casey considered sitting her against the Spartans, but decided to let her play. Rivera responded with 16 kills and nine digs.
Casey said she will take today’s and Monday’s practices off to give her four days of rest before Oxnard’s next match on Tuesday against Channel Islands.
