The most heartfelt ovation of the night wasn’t for a touchdown catch. It didn’t come after a long run or a key defensive stop.

The moment that unified the entire crowd was the simple act of a player walking to midfield for a coin flip.

Senior safety Adrian Padilla served as the honorary captain for the Oxnard High football team on Friday night for its game against Ventura at Ventura High’s Larrabee Stadium.

It was Padilla’s first time back at a game since he suffered a severe concussion against San Luis Obispo on Sept. 19 and underwent emergency brain surgery.
