A pair of 67s not only earned Camarillo High junior Johnny Ruiz the 2011 Goleta City Championship, they also earned Ruiz a spot in the tournament record book. Ruiz’s total of 8-under 134 set the record for the lowest winning score in tournament history. The event was held March 26-27 at Glen Annie Golf Club.

The Camarillo High standout finished eight strokes ahead of Westlake Village resident Nick Thomas who plays at Chaminade High in the San Fernando Valley. Finishing third was Ventura College freshman Brett Silvernail who posted a total of 143, helping him finish a stroke behind Thomas.

Albatross scored: Simi Hills Golf Course assistant professional, Matt Williamson, scored a double-eagle two, commonly known as an albatross, on the 519-yard, par-5 10th hole at Simi Hills. Witnessing the rare feat were Simi Hills Head Golf Professional Brian Reed, Simi Hills superintendent Jeff Hache, Simi Hills pro shop attendant Matt Roach, and Eric Rupe.

Williamson used a 3 wood from 247 yards to score his double eagle. His ball landed at the front of the green and rolled to the hole, in the back left corner of the green.

Hole-in-one report: Camarillo’s Cassidy Folkes, 14, scored a hole in one on the 175-yard, ninth hole at Las Posas Country Club. The Camarillo High freshman used a driver to score her ace, It was witnessed by Leslie Folkes.

Bill Robertson aced the 135-yard, 12th hole at River Ridge’s Vineyard Course. Robertson used an 8-iron. It was witnessed by Mike and Karen Chen.

Dee Allums had a hole in one on the 115-yard, fifth hole on the Victoria Lakes Course using an 8-iron. It was witnessed by LaVoyne Kennedy, Kathy Egidi, and Margaret Roth. It was the 3rd hole in one Allums has had since 1991.

Demo day: Callaway Golf and STX Putters will be presenting their newest clubs at Simi Hills Golf Course on April 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Callaway Club Specialists will be at the driving range at Simi Hills to help golfers find the best clubs to match their games. Callaway is featuring its “Trade In! Trade Up!” program, offering the opportunity to trade in clubs and get a new set of clubs at a better price.

STX Putters feature customizable and interchangeable putter faces to match putting strokes and the surface of the greens. The STX Representative will be available to help golfers find a match.

The STX Demo Day will be set up on the Simi Hills Practice Putting Green.

Kilkenny wins: Professional Chris Kilkenny fired a 2-under 70 to win the professional’s division at the An Eye 4 Golf Tournament at Rive Ridge Golf Course. John Ramirez III and Chad Wensel tied for second at two-over 74. The group’s next tournament will be held April 2 at Olivas Links Golf Course.
