Jake (Body by Jake) Steinfeld, Chairman of the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, was in there to cut the ribbon on the brand new, state-of-the-art fitness center. Hueneme won this prize, which was made possible by Anthem Blue Cross Foundation, by earning High School of the Year honors in the 2011 Governor’s Challenge Competition.
Hueneme High School was one of 2,200 schools across the state that participated in the 2011 Governor’s Challenge, a contest that encouraged more than 1.4 million Californians to engage in physical activity 30-60 minutes a day, at least 3 days a week for 4 weeks in the previous school year. More than 2,070 students from Hueneme High signed up and completed the Governor’s Challenge last year, recording a remarkable 76,121 Active Days.
