Oxnard High students may have been celebrating homecoming, but it was just another day at the office for Yellowjackets head coach Mark Beckham, whose football team sprinted to a six-touchdown lead en route to a 42-20 victory over Hueneme on Friday night in the Pacific View League opener for both teams.
“With homecoming distractions and playing a team that’s not very good and all our injuries, I’m pretty pleased with our performance,” said Beckham. “I don’t like them scoring three times, but that’s mostly about coaches playing different people.”
Oxnard improves to 3-3, 1-0; Hueneme falls to 1-5, 0-1.
The Yellowjackets towered over the Vikings on both sides of the ball in the first half.
The defense held the Vikings to two first downs and just 40 yards total offense, recovering two fumbles and sacking Hueneme quarterback Dashaun Nixon four times.
