Big plays and big performances by the offenses mostly dominated the Pacific View League opener between the Rio Mesa and Pacifica highs football teams Friday night.
It took a big hit by a defender to decide the outcome.
With Pacifica poised to tack on the tying 2-point conversion late in the fourth period, Rio Mesa’s Tanner Wrout stacked up Pacifica star running back Dennis Taylor in the backfield to preserve the Spartans’ lead and, ultimately, earn host Rio Mesa a 51-42 victory.
